A mother’s love – #BeautyInTheBeast

As a mother, how do you watch your first daughter, your pride, your princess go through something like Stevens-Johnson syndrome?

How do you remain so calm, stern in faith, fortified in strength when the reports concerning your first daughter are those of near-death?

I observed a supernatural strength in my mum. The crazy faith I shared in my previous post is the same crazy faith that I saw in my mum. I knew that her prayers rose to heaven on my behalf. Every time I looked at her while in hospital, I knew I had to fight this with everything in me because Lord knows I have so many plans to honour this incredible woman that I get to call my mummy.

I asked my mum how she felt about my diagnosis. As much as this experience happened to me, it also affected those around me. They had to ‘process’ too! My mum didn’t have to utter a word for me to understand that this was something that she was stunned by, yet she carried herself so confidently in the strength of God.

When she did finally garner the strength to share her feelings, with tears in her eyes she said ‘Satan wanted to gouge my eyes out by taking you’. I remember hearing her pray with such vigour in the early hours of the morning pleading and begging God for his mercy, just like my name ‘Kanayochukwu’ .

Indeed God heard her, God heard us, God heard our community and I am here.

My warrior mummy 💛🙏🏾
Strong and mighty woman.
Selfless woman.
Faithful woman.
Together we walked through the valley of the shadow of death. Not many will understand the cost, but the Lord himself who sees all, delights in your sacrifice.
I honour you Queen Mummy Hilda. Your love is priceless.
