Current Role, Qualifications & Experience

I am a senior leader in education, as my experience ranges from being Director of Social Sciences, Deputy Head of Sixth Form, Head of Psychology and Lead Practitioner. In addition, I am an experienced examiner for a major awarding body.

My first degree is in Psychology (BSc). I hold two teaching qualifications: PTTLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector) and PGCE Post-Compulsory, gained at the world’s number one university for education, UCL’s Institute of Education. I hold a Master’s in Educational Assessment from UCL, for which I achieved a distinction (A) for my 22,000-word thesis. I have a doctorate in Education (EdD) from UCL and have presented my work at the British Educational Research Association (BERA). More information about my professional experience can be found here.

Mission Statement

My philosophy on teaching is that students should drive their own learning. Lessons should be challenging, engaging and should draw on the experiences of each student. I am passionate about student engagement and so, most of my lessons use discussion as a form of ‘stretch and challenge’, to foster intellectual rigour, critical thinking and depth. I pride myself on creating high-quality resources for my students to aid their learning and revision, and have managed to subtly include social media platforms such as YouTube and Twitter to support learning.

My mantra is grace and truth in all areas of teaching. I aim to model the type of individual that I would like my students to become, and enjoy having the privilege of teaching future business owners, teachers, doctors, lawyers, mothers, fathers and so on.

My Teaching in Action

Below are a series of videos, pictures, and tweets to show my teaching style, the response from my students and even some parents. You can access more videos via my Youtube and Twitter teaching pages ‘Psychology with Ms Kay’!
