‘I can’t remember where this scripture is…’ SO WHAT?!

I’ve had so many people tell me that they feel discouraged because they can’t remember the location of certain scriptures as well as others.

My question is: For example, does ‘John 3:16’ have power or is it the content of John 3:16 have power?

It’s the content. What has power isn’t your memory of the location of the scripture – it is the scripture itself! It has so much power and is even more powerful when you believe it and live it out!

Many people can quote scripture but fail to live it!

What use is memorising the location of scripture when your behaviour fails to locate and represent the content of that scripture.

Don’t get caught up in trying to memorise the location of scripture(s) to appear knowledgeable, clued up or super-spiritual, that you miss out on actually living scripture.

You are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read by all men; clearly you are an epistle of Christ, ministered by us, written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of flesh, that is,of the heart. – 2 Corinthians 3:2-3

As long as you are actively trying to hide God’s word in your heart (Read Psalm 119) who is fussed about the ‘location’? Especially when we have good old Google and every other search engine in the world! 🙂

AND…Jesus as far as I know, did not refer to the ‘exact’ location of scripture as we know it in our modern day. He simply said, ‘it is written’ (Matthew 4:4).

JC BeginningSo, Don’t let the modern day Pharisees get you down boo! If you can’t remember the location, it does not make you a bad or weaker Christian! Its good knowledge to have, but not the be all and end all.

Of course its important to reference scripture when writing, making statements or sharing your faith in a formal manner – but whenever you get stuck, don’t beat yourself up about it. You can ask someone, use a search engine, or kindly tell whoever it is you are speaking to, that you can’t remember the exact location, but, you will get back to them!

Lets not get caught up in trying to please people or boost our own egos by pretending to know it all.

Remember, the best way to memorise scripture is to APPLY IT and LIVE IT!

Love you guys!

Stay in the Word!
